The Victorian Readers: Fourth Book

A. C. Brooks, Government Printer, Melbourne, 1940. Reprint, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Illustrated by: Various. Good/No Dust Jacket. Illustrated throughout with line drawings, and black-and-white photographs. Light brown coloured boards with black coloured titles the front panel and back strip. A collection of short stories of mythology, culture of the various countries, and fairytales. While the title page says printed 1940, V back of the frontispiece has an inscription printed 9880/60-1. I would suggest that this is a later printing. Softening of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book edges with bumping of the lower book corners. Blue coloured ink stain to the front panel with stains and handling marks to the rear panel stop browning and foxing of the text block edges with browning of the pages. Previous owners name to the top edge of the title page. Remnants of tape can be seen to the end pages and there is offset tanning also present. Second Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A nice collection of short stories and poetry illustrated with black-and-white line drawings. The publication year is an estimate. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with Cocking of the spine. Bumping of the book corners with sunning to the book edges. Fading of the back strip with a white coloured mark to the lower left hand corner of the front panel and back strip. Light age toning and foxing of the text block edges; though the pages themselves a clean and bright. Offset tanning to the end pages. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 244 pages.
