Also included are installments from ' My Novel; or Varieties in English Life,' by Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton. Another section features a description and account of the Franconia or White Mountains of New Hampshire, including an illustration of the Old Man of the Mountains, with another section on Napoleon and reoccurring features on fashion. FAIR/GOOD condition. Front cover interior hinge cracked and separating along the hinge, somewhat tenuously attached. Very heavy scuffing to the boards, with moderate toning, soiling, staining and wear. Upper 1 ½ of backstrip missing. Text block solid with scattered foxing and soiling. Paper toned. Also present are two short columns on travel/exploration in Africa by Captain Canot. POOR/FAIR condition. Heavy chipping, tearing, creasing and tattering along the extremities, with a triangular 5 by 2 inch piece MISSING from the upper rear wrapper. Heavy creasing to the wrappers. A superb collection of installments from 'All the Year Round', the weekly journal compiled by Charles Dickens, with these issues containing the first appearance of Wilkie Collins' 'The Woman in White', and Dickens' 'A Tale of Two Cities&apos. Bound in full cloth. Endpapers renewed. Consisting of three volumes bound in six, running from Volume I, No. 1, April 30, 1859 to Volume III, No. 76, October 6, 1860. This Victorian periodical was founded and run by Charles Dickens, forming a direct successor to his 'Household Works' periodical, which was abandoned due to differences with the publisher. This journal hosted the serialisation of many prominent novels, and ran until 1895. Present here are the first three volumes of the periodical - each retaining their volume title page - alongside the Christmas number of 1859, containing 'The Haunted House&apos. Notably, this set contains the complete first publication of Wilkie Collins's 'The Woman in White', present in forty-four issues, from Volume II, number thirty-one, November 26, 1859 to Volume III, number seventy, August 25th, 1860. Also present is the complete first publication of Dickens's 'A Tale of Two Cities' consisting of thirty-one issues, from Volume I, number one, April 30, 1859 to Volume II, number thirty-one, November 26, 1859. Bound in full cloth. Endpapers and blanks renewed. Externally, excellent, with a touch of fading to the spine and minor shelf wear. Internally, firmly bound.
