¶ Au printemps 2024, le musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons consacre une exposition inédite au sculpteur français Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). L'exposition propose une relecture de son cheminement artistique dont la Belgique - ce riche terreau qui a permis à son art de s'épanouir - est le point d'orgue. Le parcours présentera près de deux cents sculptures parmi les plus célèbres de l'artiste, dont certaines monumentales, dessins, gravures et peintures, provenant du musée Rodin à Paris, d'institutions internationales et de collections privées. Grâce aux nombreuses découvertes et rapprochements avec les sources d'inspiration de Rodin (Michel- Ange, Vésale, Mabuse, Rubens), elle dévoilera l'intérêt du sculpteur pour des innovations artistiques de la Renaissance peu prises en compte jusqu'aujourd'hui. A ce titre, l'exposition permettra de redécouvrir l'oeuvre du sculpteur Jacques du Broeucq, maître de Gianbologna ainsi qu'une sélection d'oeuvres provenant des collections du musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons. Enfin, grâce à la collaboration exceptionnelle de l'artiste belge Berlinde De Bruyckere, Rodin apparaît toujours d'actualité, presque paradoxalement, comme un jalon essentiel vers l'art contemporain.
