This is a scarce four volume set of Captain Frederick Marryat's novels Peter Simple, Jacob Faithful, Japhet, In Search of a Father and Rattlin the Reefer. Each volume is part of the Richard Bentley Standard Novels Collection and is complete with a frontispiece and illustrated title page. Frederick Marryat was a Royal Navy officer and novelist most noted for his pioneering of nautical fiction. Bound in quarter leather and cloth covered boards. Externally, smart. There spines have a few marks and there are some light marks to the boards. There is a stamp to the front free endpaper and pastedown of Jacob Faithful. There is a previous owners signature to the title pages of Jacob Faithful and Japhet, In Search of a Father. Internally, firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd scattered spot. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
