Creatures of the Pool. Introduction by Bryan Talbot
PS Publishing, 2009. Ed./Druk: 1e druk. Hardcover. Pp: 327. Gavin Meadows gives guided tours of Liverpool. Some of his stories are based on history and some on local legends. As a summer of rainstorms and redevelopment overtakes the city, his research starts to disinter the true nature of the place. What originally brougth settlers to the Pool? What used to take place in the cellars of Liverpool's Whitechapel? Why did Joseph Williamson, the Mole of Edge Hill, construct a maze of underground tunnels only to brick them up? What drove Virginia Woolf's uncle mad in Liverpool as he summed up a prosecution for murder? As Gavin and his partner Lucinda delve deeper they're confronted by the truth behind the legends and encounter what has always lived under the city. At the end, what will come up from the dark?. The Inhabitant of the Lake & Other Less Welcome Tenants
PS Publishing, 2011. Hardcover. Pp: 291. The influence of H. P. Lovecraft spans the centuries. Several of his correspondents who were writers learned by imitating him. The early tales of Robert Bloch and Henry Kuttner read very much like Lovecraft, while others of his friends"Donald Wandrei, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard and August Derleth among them"incorporated his ideas and myths into their fiction. Bloch and Frank Belknap Long even wrote tributes to him that used him, barely disguised, as a character. After Lovecraft`s death August Derleth took control of his mythos, adding to and organising it more systematically than its creator ever had. Derleth was a jealous guardian of Lovecraft`s reputation, and insisted on vetting any stories by new writers that used the mythos. Few found his favour until 1961, when a Liverpudlian fifteen-year-old sent him the first drafts of several Lovecraftian tales. The outcome was a ten-year professional relationship and the appearance in 1964 of the first book of previously unpublished Lovecraftian fiction for five years. It was The Inhabitant of the Lake. This fiftieth anniversary edition reprints that book in full, including the original introduction. It also includes the first drafts of all the tales that were rewritten before publication and reproduces Derleth`s editorial responses to the stories. This edition is superbly illustrated by Randy Broecker in the great tradition of Weird Tales. ISBN: 9781848632004. Cond./Kwaliteit: Goed.

Thirteen Days by Sunset Beach
PS Publishing, 2015. Ed./Druk: 1e druk. Gekartonneerd met stofomslag. Pp: 224. It's Ray's and Sandra's first family holiday in Greece, on the newly developed island of Vasilema. The family weren't to know that the skies are cloudier above the island than anywhere else in Greece, and they're mostly intrigued by the local eccentricities and customs - the lack of mirrors, the outsize beach umbrellas, the saint's day celebrated with an odd nocturnal ritual. Only why are there islanders who seem to follow the family wherever they go? Why do Sandra and the teenage grandchildren have strangely similar dreams? 'I was in this huge place with no light and I didn't want to see. Something sounded. huge.' And has Sandra been granted a wish she didn't even know she made? Before their holiday is over, some of the family may learn more than they can bear about the secret that keeps the island alive. ISBN: 9781848639317. Cond./Kwaliteit: Goed.
