The pictures are accompanied by the text of Mr. Beebe. Includes title page illustration by E. S. Dust jacket repeats the Hammack title page art. --- With minor dampstains at lower gutters near front and rear of volume and water spotting to textblock top edge, else a tightly-bound, unmarked copy. The author's concern has been with worldly and less sanctified expenditures in the field of splendid entertainment,. ostentatious real estate, sea-going yachts, gold table service, garages filled with Rolls-royces, platoons of liveried flunkies, vintage wine in double magnums, galleries of old masters, titled son-in-laws, stables of thoroughbreds, and Cartier-diamond necklace and terrapin-Maryland level. They brushed their teeth in vintage Champagne and their valets polished the soles of their boots in case the master wanted to cross his legs. Gene Fowler wrote money is something to be thrown off the back end of trains. DJ tanned with splits on edges.

The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping. The text pages are clean and bright. The edges of the text block - especially the top and bottom edges. The dust jacket has edge wear, rubbing, nicking, several tears and holes and chips missing. "During and immediately after obtaining his degree from Harvard, Beebe published several books of poetry, but eventually found his true calling in journalism. He worked as a journalist for the New York Herald Tribune, the San Francisco Examiner, the Boston Telegram, and the Boston Evening Transcript, and was a contributing writer to many magazines such as Gourmet, The New Yorker, Town and Country, Holiday, American Heritage, and Playboy. Beebe re-launched Nevada's first newspaper, the Territorial Enterprise, in 1952. He wrote a syndicated column for the New York Herald Tribune from the 1930s through 1944 called This New York. The column chronicled the doings of fashionable society at such storied restaurants and nightclubs as El Morocco, the 21 Club, the Stork Club, and The Colony. Beebe is credited with popularizing the term "cafe society", which was used to describe the people mentioned in his column. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ in Good dust jacket .

This copy has a couple of light corner bumps, some light pagedge soil, some light board edgewear. The 6.00 plain paper jacket has some rubbing wear, some soil, some edge chipping at the top and base of the spine, several short closed tears. This looks like an early re-issue of the Appleton-Croft 1945 editon with a capital A on the copyright page indication a First Printing of this edition. Included with this copy is an 8 x 10 black and white photo of a diesel engine of the Angelina & Neches River Railroad Co. Also included is a post office canceled Post Card featuring an aerial view of the Horseshoe Curve at Altoona, PA which was mailed in 1969 with a cancelled 6 cent stamp. 220 plus pages with many photos and illustrations. Very Good +.
