Belfast, Ireland, Wm. Strain & Sons, for the author's estate, 1904. First Edition. Hardcover. Size: 12mo 7" - 7. Scarce in the trade, there being currently no SIGNED copies of the First Edition, signed "S.L. Richardson from the author" at first free endpaper. The author, "Professor Byers" (as it says at title page), was Sir John William Byers (1853-1920), a physician who had a keen ear for language and dialect, humor and folklore. This volume was published to reprise a lecture given the prior year on December 1st and a short paper contributed in 1901 to a Northern Whig newspaper. Bound in simple textured dark bluish cloth, sunned and toned at top and spine, gilt lettering to spine, crisp, but sunned to brown. Faint remains of paper to rear bottom tip, front board near fore-edge. Clean interior. Red-speckled fore-edge, dealer stamp, neatly affixed. 66 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. . Signed by Author. . Good
