The first volume of the British Colour Council's Horticultural Colour Chart, a collaboration between the British Colour Council and Royal Horticultural Society to make a standardized colour dictionary of the colours most beneficial to gardeners, botanists, and horticulturalists. Contains technical names and standards for colours 'usually met with in garden flowers, including 64 Full Hues comprising equal gradations of the Spectrum Range, and certain lighter tints and deeper full hues'. Vol. 1 contains 100 plates of 4 tints each, primarily covering the yellows, oranges, pinks, blues, greens, and purples. Also included is the 'Black Mask' for use when viewing the colours - a black piece of card with a window cut-out, 'supplied with the chart, as when the eye is influenced by adjacent colours a true match is not obtained'.
