Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1930. Leather. A beautiful copy of Robert Bridges' popular poem, 'The Testament of Beauty&apos. With a photographic frontispiece of Bridges. This work conveys Bridges' use of 'neo-miltonic syllabics' where the poem is based on syllables rather than accents. The Testament of Beauty is regarded as Bridges' most famous poem, and brought him great popularity. The work was first published the year before his death. He was appointed to the Order of Merit for this long philosophical work. Robert Bridges was a doctor by training and achieved literary fame later in his life. He was Britain's poet laureate from 1913 to 1930. In a quarter vellum binding with marbled paper covered boards. Externally, very smart with some minor shelfwear to the extremities and to the head and tail of spine. Vellum has faded slightly as expected. Internally, firmly bound. Some very minor offsetting to the recto of front endpaper. Pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine .
