 Edward Brathwaite, Islands
Edward Brathwaite
Islands
London, Oxford University Press, 1969. First edition. Cloth. A smart first edition of the third part of Brathwaite's trilogy of poems, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition. The third part of the author's trilogy of poems interweaving the past and present of his Caribbean homeland with the experiences in the New World. This poem follows on from Rights of Passage (1967) and Masks (1968), and all three works were later published together as The Arrivants: A New World Trilogy - now considered Brathwaite's best work. Written by Edward Kamau Brathwaite, a Barbadian poet and academic, widely considered one of the major voices in the Caribbean literary canon. Brathwaite was noted for his studies of Black cultural life both in Africa and throughout the African diasporas of the world. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Light sunning to the spine with the odd mark to the panels. Creases to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. With a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Near Fine . Ill.: None. Near Fine/Very Good.
