Small quarto in recent grey card covers, frontis + title + 45pp. Upper margin of titlepage repaired where part of name cut away, frontis and last leaf mounted, 3 leaves cut short at fore-edge without loss of text. *The first of two political satires published anonymously by Bramston, a Sussex clergyman, which "hold an honourable place in 18th-century verse, [and] abound with contemporary references, and frequently happy lines" (DNB article James Bramston - see too D.F. Foxon, English Verse 1701-1750, B386).

The autobiography of Sir John Bramston the Younger, an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1679. The son of Sir John Bramston the Elder, an English judge and Chief Justice of the King's Bench. Preserved in the archives at Skreens, this autobiography was published by the Camden Society in 1845 for the first time. With accounts from early childhood up to a few weeks before his death, it has been said that "Although it casts no important light on historical events, it is of great interest as a record of the social and domestic life of the period". Bound by Remnant & Edmunds, London. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. A small split in the cloth to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot.
