African Art has won its place among the great art traditions of the world. Much has been written about the influence of African sculpture on European art, particularly on the works of Picasso, Derain, Braque, Matisse, and other famous painters. Today, however, African art is acclaimed in its own right by scholars and collectors in Europe and America; and the number of books on the subject, published both here and abroad, increases each year. By now the question of whether African art was discovered by artists or by anthropologists is largely academic. The main question remaining to be answered is how long it will take for African art to be appreciated by the general public. Good, minor marks on wraps and creases at corners.
