Moscow, Ussr: Foreign Languages Press, 0. 1st English Language Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. B&W Photographs; C1962. This is a trade sized paperback book. The book is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean condition. The spine of the book has wear, rubbing and several chps missing. The spine joints are very noticeably rubbing and edgeworn. The bottom front corner has some creasing. The text pages are clean, but noticeably toned due to the acid content of the paper. The book is illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. This book discusses many aspects of man-made satellites, especially Sputnik, in detail. "Sputnik 1 was the first artificial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. It was a 58 cm (23 in) diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennae to broadcast radio pulses. It was visible all around the Earth and its radio pulses were detectable. This surprise success precipitated the American Sputnik crisis and triggered the Space Race, a part of the larger Cold War. The launch ushered in new political, military, technological, and scientific developments." (from Wikipedia). Good .
