Large paper copy. The first limited edition of this work, one of two hundred and seventy five unnumbered copies printed. A scarce work, rarely seen in commerce. In the original publisher's quarter vellum binding.A pictorial criticism on the art of Sandro Botticelli, important Italian painter of the Early Renaissance. He is mostly known for his paintings often illustrative of mythological subjects and his many interpretations of religious subjects and portraits. His best-known works are The Birth of Venus and Primavera, both in the Uffizi in Florence.Illustrated with twenty-three plates tipped in in colour. Collated without frontispiece etching by Muirhead Bone, with evidence of its removal. Written by Laurence Binyon, English poet and scholar. He also wrote a biography of Botticelli. Pictorial ex libris bookplate to front pastedown. In the original publisher's quarter vellum binding over cloth covered boards. Externally with shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine. boards lightly marked with damp marks. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor handling mark to odd leaf, pages otherwise bright and clean.
