London , Chatto and Windus, 1883. Cloth. All Sorts and Conditions of Men is a novel by Sir Walter Besant (1836 - 1901) who was a novelist and historian. With twelve illustrations by Fred. Barnard (1846 - 1896) who was a Victorian illustrator, caricaturist and genre painter. The novel was later made into a 1921 British silent drama film directed by Georges Tréville and starring Renee Kelly, Rex Davis and James Lindsay. With ink inscription dated 1883 to front blank. In a decorative cloth binding. Externally, generally smart but with slight bumping and wear to extremities and some fading to spine. With the odd mark to boards. Front hinge strained, rear hinge failed with backstrip lifting. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places with one plate detached. Bright but with odd spots and marks to pages.
