An uncommon first edition copy of Peter Auber's history of British power in India, an illustrated with complete with three folding maps. The first edition of this uncommon work.Complete in two volumes.Half-titles are present. Volume I illustrated with a cloth-backed folding map to the frontispiece, and two-cloth backed colour folding maps. Collated, complete.An extensive study into the rise and progress of the British Empire's endeavours in India, published just before the vast expansion of the Victorian era.The work begins with a look at the early history of Hindostan and the native powers, picking up with British influence from 1600. By Peter Auber, who had been the Secretary to the Honourable the Court of Directors of the East-India Company. In a half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Externally, smart, with very light rubbing to the leather. A few minor marks to the boards. Cloth to the joints is fraying a little. Rear hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot, including to the folding maps. Institutional stamps to the title pages, reverse of the maps, and a few pages of text, including a blind stamp to the title pages and final leaves of text. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated. Very Good .
