Dent,, [1906]. 8vo., First Edition thus, contemporary signature on front free endpaper; original series de luxe binding of full maroon leatherette, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt to an art deco design, back gilt extra, gilt top, radial corners, pictorial endpapers, marker ribbon, a remarkably bright, clean copy. FIRST APPEARANCE IN EVERYMAN. The EL full leatherette binding (1906-c.1917) faithfully reflects the art deco movement of the period. By far the most elegant of all the EL series bindings, it is notoriously fragile and seldom found in bright, sound state as here. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. EL 115; Seymour 31.0; Sullivan 219.

In light blue dust jacket with Ravilious 'knot' to front panel. --- A generally well-preserved copy, tightly-bound and unmarked (though with slightly age-toned leaves). Intact jacket with some darkening (esp. to spine), a small back panel tear and inked front panel price, otherwise undamaged and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xv, 380, 4, 16 (ads) pages.
