Alban Butler: Né en 1711 et décédé en 1773, Butler était un prêtre et théologien anglais. Il est l'auteur de The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints, une ?uvre encyclopédique publiée pour la première fois en 1745. Cette ?uvre a été traduite en français par Godescard et a connu de nombreuses rééditions. Jean-François Godescard: Né à Rocquemont en 1728 et décédé à Paris en 1800, Godescard était un prêtre catholique du diocèse de Rouen. Il est surtout connu pour sa traduction libre de l'anglais de l'ouvrage d'Alban Butler, Vies des Pères, Martyrs et autres principaux saints. Il a également écrit de nombreux ouvrages sur la vie des saints.
