¶ Franck Mortelmans was een Belgische kunstenaar geboren in 1898 te Antwerpen en aldaar overleden in 1986. Hij was een schilder, tekenaar, pastellist en illustrator. Hij was de neef van de schilder Frans en van de beeldhouwer August Mortelmans. Hij volgde zijn opleiding aan de Academie te Antwerpen o.l.v. Is. Opsomer en F. Hens. Hij debuteerde met impressionistische stadsgezichten, maar evolueerde al vlug naar een synthetiserende vormgeving en grote kleurvlakken. Hij schilderde tevens vele portretten van burgerlijke en mondaine vrouwen, in de stijl van de portrettraditie uit de 19de eeuw. Vanaf 1930 ontstonden talrijke landschappen met grote, soms bewogen luchtpartijen. Zijn stillevens komen gevoelig over. Hij ijverde tot enkele jaren voor zijn overlijden voor het behoud van bedreigde landschappen en monumenten, die hij tijdens zijn tochten doorheen Antwerpen en omgeving met scherpe precisie in zijn tekeningen heeft vastgelegd. Was vanaf de stichting in 1924 leraar aan de Vakschool voor Kunstambachten te Antwerpen en vanaf 1936 aan de Academie te Berchem. Werd in 1958 directeur aan de Academie te Berchem en was in 1946 tot 1963 tevens leraar aan de Academie te Antwerpen. Werk o.m. in de Musea te Antwerpen (?Stilleven?) en Oostende. Vermeld in BAS II.
