The present volume was originally published in 1902 by Pearson, and it contains a detailed study of the ocean: the laws that govern its movements, its dark and mysterious depths, the various deposits on its bed, and the living creatures that inhabit it. Illustrated with a frontispiece and other black and white full page plates.Written by Agnes Giberne, a prolific British novelist and scientific author. Among her work are Victorian evangelical fiction, on geology, natural history, botany, physics, history, and more. In an exquisite full tree calf prize binding from Wellington College signed T. Hunt, awarded to G. S. Patten for mathematics in 1908. In a full tree calf school prize binding, with gilt blind stamp to the front board, five raised bands and gilt tooling to the spine, marbled edges and new marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, light sunning to the spine, minor rubbing to the joints and spine. Wellington College prize bookplate to the front pastedown dated 1908. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to the leaves, particularly to the first and last few. Illustrated with a frontispiece and other full page plates in black and white.
