COLLMAN, RUSS; MCCOY, DELL A. ET AL.
The R-G-S Story, Rio Grande Southern: Volumes I Through XII (Complete Twelve Volume Set)
Denver: Sundance Publications, Limited, 1990-2006. Hardcover. ISBN: 0913582581. A complete, hefty 12-volume set, detailing the history of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad. The railroad was the final narrow gauge line to be built in Colorado, starting in 1890. The trains served the mines and towns of southwestern Colorado, generally south of Montrose in Ridgway, Telluride, Rico, Dolores, and Durango. Being some of the most challenging, steep terrain in the Colorado Rockies, the RGS had to construct numerous bridges and trestles. This portfolio of historic and modern photos in black & white and color tells the story of the power units, rolling stock, people, buildings and spectacular scenery along the way in San Juan Mountains. Also includes several maps (including folded maps at rear of vol. VII and X) and numerous schematic drawings of bridges and buildings. The series was begun by Russ Collman and Dell A. McCoy but later installments were authored by several additional contributors. Vol. VII numbered 1296 and signed on half title by McCoy, Collman, and contributor W. George Cook. --- In paper-covered boards with color images to front and rear panels, and backed in black leatherette with titling in silver to spine. Each volume about 496 pages and each protected in clear plastic wrapper. --- A clean, tightly-bound, bright set lacking damages worthy of mention.
