Martin Freeman's critical study of Thomas Love Peacock. Illustrated with a frontispiece. After some early attempts at poetry, Peacock wrote a string of successful satirical novels in which a range of characters sit around a table and discusses the philosophical conundrums of the day. In the present volume, Freeman discusses Peacock's early influences and compositions, his transition into satire, his friendship with Percy Bysshe Shelley, and his role in the East India Company. Freeman was a literary scholar who specialised in medieval Irish texts. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, lovely. Very lightly rubbed to the boards with some marginal bumping to the head of the spine. A little bumped to the rear extremity. Internally, firmly bound.
