London, Puffin Picture Book, c1940. Paperback. A scarce copy of this collection of fables for children, with bright illustrations throughout. Scarce work. A Puffin Picture Book. Illustrated with colour throughout. A collection of Aesop's fables, retold in simple language for children, including: The Old Man and His Donkey, The Dog and His Bone, and The Proud Bull Frog. Aesop was a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Adapted by Sheila Hawkins, a British author and illustrator. Dated from the Victoria and Albert Museum Libraries. In the original pictorial paper wraps. Externally, worn with both the front and rear pages detached but present. Light wear to the extremities with minor sunning. The first page is also detached but present. Internally, generally firmly bound with the odd page loosening and a split to the spine. Pages are very bright and clean. Good Only . Ill.: Not Stated. Good Only .
