Adelaide Anne Procter (1825–1864) was an English poet and philanthropist, known for her sentimental and religious verse. A favourite poet of Queen Victoria, she was one of the most popular female poets of the 19th century. Much of her work appeared in Household Words and All the Year Round, publications edited by Charles Dickens, who was a strong supporter of her writing. Her poetry often reflected themes of social justice, women's rights, and charity, and she was an active advocate for homeless women and unemployed governesses. Her most famous collection, Legends and Lyrics, was widely read, and many of her poems were later set to music. A devout Catholic, Procter’s work had a strong moral and spiritual dimension. She died of tuberculosis at the age of 38, leaving behind a legacy of poetry that continued to inspire Victorian readers.. Good with no dust jacket .
