A collection of three uniformly bound works of fiction and essays This three volume set contains; 'The Ingoldsby Legends' illustrated by Thomas Heath Robinson with a frontispiece and seven plates. Written by Richard Berham, 'Legends' is a collection of myths, legends, poetry, and ghost stories. They contain the stories 'The Tragedy', 'The Lady Rohesia', 'The Merchant of Venice', 'The Jackdaw of Rheims', 'The Dead Drummer', and 'Marie Mignot&apos. Thomas Robinson was a very popular book illustrator alongside his brothers Charles and Heath. He contributed illustrations to many books and journals, including 'Pall Mall Magazine', and 'The Strand&apos. 'The Last Days of Pompeii', illustrated by Arthur A Dixon with a frontispiece and fifteen plates. This was a historical novel written by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, focussing on the time in Pompeii before the destruction by Vesuvius. It was inspired by the painting by Karl Bryullov. Arthur Dixon illustrated books by many popular authors, including editions of novels by Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens, Elsie Oxenham, and Alexandre Dumas. 'Essays of Elia' with a frontispiece and five plates. This is a collection of essays by Charles Lamb, including the essays 'The South-Sea House', 'Valentine's Day', 'My First Play', 'Poor Relationship', 'Sanity of True Genius', and 'The Tombs in the Abbey&apos. Lamb is best known for 'Tales from Shakespeare', which he wrote with his sister Mary. He also published 'The Adventures of Ulysess', 'Witches and Other Night Fears', and 'The Pawnbroker's Daughter&apos. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor shelfwear to boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Very light offsetting to the pastedowns, to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the verso of the rear endpaper. Light spotting to the fore edges. Internally, firmly bound, though 'The Ingoldsby Legends' is lightly strained in places. Pages are bright and generally clean, with just the odd spot throughout, mostly due to the spotting to the fore edges. Each volume has the ribbon marker intact. Very Good Indeed .
