TROLLOPE, ANTHONY. - Barchester Towers.![]() London, Longman &c 1857. Three volumes octavo contemporary half gilt calf. A scattering of mild spots or browning here and there but rather good and handsome. Neat inscription on the first title: Bettington Libry 59, and Bettington on the other two titles. ¶ First edition with the desirable issue point. A colonial aristocracy copy I'd say. The James Brindley Bettington dynasty (there were dozens of them, one after the other - if one died in infancy the next boy born got the name) was most definitely colonial aristocracy and Oatlands House stayed in the family from the late 1830s until 1926 when the house was emptied. Which fits well with the Angus & Robertson stamp on a front fly and the hefty price of five guineas.
