Fukuwarai hikifuda. - [Yojiko].

Osaka, Noda Tadahiro? 190-? 15x13cm colour woodcut with letterpress on the back. Small piece from the top edge. ¶ This hikifuda - an advertising handbill - for powdered baby formula is also a fukuwarai - a pin-the-tail game except that the blindfolded player has a face to put together rather than land a tail nearest the backside of an animal. From the baby bottle, not so much the baby, I would date this to about 1890 but I suspect that's too early for powdered formula. The text on the back is headed with advice to tell a person without milk about this.
