Thomas Browne's notes and letters to Christopher Merrett on the natural history of Norfolk lay unpublished among his manuscript collection in the Sloane Collection until 1835, when they were first included by Wilkins in an edition of Browne's works, however, they were first printed separately and in extenso in this work by Thomas Southwell. The notes are of particular interest as they were one of the sources from which Merrett compiled his list of British birds printed in the Pinax (1666-1667).Mullens & Swann p. 100..
