Frommel, Carl Ludwig - Innsbruck, Antique Handcoloured Engraving

In good overall condition, some discolouration due to its age. This is a usual yellowing of the paper. This original print is watercolored with harmonic colors and is realized with a sure touch, including an antique gilded cardboard passepartout. Image size: 213 mm. high – 288 mm. width (8.39 inch – 11.02 inch). Outside of the frame: 448 mm. high – 520 mm. width ( 17.64 inch – 20.47 inch). The back of the artwork is preserved with new acid free materials. The paper of the engraving is not glued on the backside. Karl Ludwig Frommel (Birkenfeld, 1789 – Inspringen1863) The German landscape painter and engraver, began his artistic career studing at Karlsruhe, under F. J. Becker and Haldenwang. He visited Paris, and earned a considerable reputation in Italy (1812–17). He was appointed professor at Karlsruhe where he founded the Society of Art and Industry. After a visit to London (1824) to acquaint himself with the technique of steel engraving, he opened a studio, with Henry Winkles at Karlsruhe. From 1830 to 1858 he was director of the gallery, which flourished.
