Melamed (b. 1932) pioneered the financial futures market and long served as chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021) served as U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81), and afterward he and Melamed once partnered in a business together, co-founding in 2007 the Asian mergers and acquisitions firm HuaMei Capital Co. Inc. .
