First edition thus original publisher's issued binding designed and crafted by the famous firm of Sangorski and Sutcliffe in cream buckram featuring their famous all-over gilt-stamped design of stylised peacock with flowing tail feathers amid a highly decorative background and border motif, spine richly gilt, top edge gilt, fore and lower page edges untrimmed, lavender and green pictorial end sheets. Folio. 12½'' x 9¼''. Printed on thick high quality card stock, the Rubáiyát has unnumbered pages comprising 66 quatrains enriched with 12 plates printed in gold and colours, text block printed in black and red, with elaborate initials throughout in red, blue, gold, brown and black. Further decorated with fine borders in gilt and colours surrounding the illustrations. Light foxing throughout with some small marks to the fore edge of the front free end paper and in Very Good condition.
