Governor General van Imhoff ordered a mansion to be built in 1745, which was the origin of the later presidential palace. The surrounding gardens became the hortus botanicus known as ' 's Lands Plantentuin Buitenzorg', set up initially by Reinwardt in 1817. Blume was the second general manager of the gardens and took over from Reinwardt 5 years later. The first printed catalogue of the plants in the garden was published by Blume in 1823, nowadays a rare book. It contained 1300 plants divided in 22 classes. Hasskarl wrote a 2nd catalogue in 1844.
