HANSEN, THORKILD. - North West to Hudson Bay: The Life and Times of Jens Munk.

London: Collins, 1970. 1970. - Octavo, dark gray cloth. 348 pages. Black-and-white illustrations reproduced from contemporary prints and charts. Very good.

First edition in English, translated by James McFarlane and John Lynch.

Jens Munk [1579-1628] was a Danish-Norwegian navigator and explorer. He entered into the service of King Christian IV of Denmark and is most noted for his attempts to find the Northwest Passage to India. "The Journal of Jens Munk", in which Munk recorded the events of 1619 and 1620 and completed as he was facing his own death, is still preserved centuries after he died in the Royal Library in Copenhagen. Very good .
