Hamlets and villages, where life had run the even tenor of its way, from generation to generation, were roused to a lively and passionate interest in things spiritual and divine.."(author's preface). Pp.viii/268/4(ads for other publications), owner's name to front free endpaper, toning to title page with "shadow" of name to free endpaper, one or two light marginal spots and a few small ink marks, inner hinges cracked. Blue illustrated bevelled cloth with gilt title to front and spine, creasing to spine with wear to top and tail and corners, boards rubbed. Scarce. Good.
