MELVILLE, HERMAN - Israel Potter : His Fifty Years of Exile

London, Jonathan Cape. 1925, Re-Issue. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First published in serial form in Putnam's Monthly magazine between July 1854 and March 1855, and in book form by G. P. Putnam & Co. in March 1855. The book is loosely based on an autobiographical pamphlet from 1824. Potter had been a veteran of the Battle of Bunker Hill, a sailor in the Revolutionary navy, a prisoner of the British, an escapee in England, a secret agent and courier in France. CONDITION Red cloth bds with paper spine label, pp xviii 301. Spine toned, not worn, bright and crisp copy with name inside front and toned eps. Near Fine/No Jacket.
