Tokyo, Sokyu-sha., 2002, First Edition. (ISBN: 03-3358-3974) Gilt-Stamped Boards, Slipcased, Small 8vo, 56pp, 40 b&w and 8 color illustrations. Text in Japanese and English. With a biography. "Mother's" is noted Japanese photographer Miyako Ishiuchi's poignant reflection on her complex relationship with her mother. In it, images of intimate personal objects such as half-used lipsticks and lingerie left behind following her passing in 2000 are interspersed with Ishiuchi's riveting extreme close ups of patches of her mother's severely burned skin. "What I have now are only the things my mother left behind for me. I bring them out into the light one by one, to seal their image onto photograph, as a farewell to her". A brand new, pristine example of the 2002 Sokyu-sha first edition of this uncommon item (cited on page 320 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume II") in the publisher's unprinted, die-cut cardboard slipcase, as issued.
