It is Sir Michael Butler who conceived this event that gathers a hundred objects of which more than half have never been shown in public. In the reign of the late Emperors of the Ming dynasty , the Imperial workshops were gradually abandoned with the most talented potters and painters moving into the private sector. Unrecognized for a long time, this production can now be most fully appreciated thanks to the large collection amassed by Sir Michael Butler over a period of almost fifty years. In 2005 the Shanghai Museum, one of the biggest museums of Chinese porcelain in the world, displayed pieces from the Buttler collection together with its own collected works. This exhibition was also held in London at the Victoria and Albert Museum." excerpt from the introductory text by Jean-Luc Mousset, Curator of the Musée National d'Histoire et d'Art du Luxembourg.
