Geoffrey Broom joined the Royal Naval Patrol Service in 1940, trained as a signaller and from early in 1941 served in HMT Norse, a Grimsby trawler requisitioned in 1939 and converted for minesweeping, Norse was posted to the Eastern Mediterranean.
