Knipe, Emily Benson (artist) and with New Stories and Verses by Alice Calhoun Haines - Girls and Boys

New York City, Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1905. 1st edition. Hardcover. [unpaginated]. 4to. Bound in original cloth-backed illustrated boards. The boards of our copy are a bit bowed, well-worn and rather soiled. The front hinge is cracking. There is spotting to the margins throughout, although all plates, except the last, are untouched. The last plate, showing two boys in winter garb and old-fashioned ice skates hung around their necks, has three small abrasions across the face of one boy, resulting in loss of the colour. Except for marginal soiling, as noted, the other plates are unmarred. Overall, not a perfect copy, but in decent shape nonetheless. With eight quite lovely full-colour, full-page, plates after drawings by Emilie Benson Knipe. The first of a small series of 'Girls and Boys' titles published by Stokes with stories by Alice Calhoun Haines and illustrated by various noted artists. Other titles are 'Indian Boys and Girls' and 'Japanese Boys and Girls'. .
