Paris, Chez Beauce-Rusand, 1821. Leather. 155p. A hardcover book bound in 3/4 brown leather with black cloth boards. Head of spine torn, and edges scuffed. A few convent markings inside. Pages lightly age-toned and foxed, but otherwise, text unmarked and binding tight. Examines the state of the Catholic Church in the years following the Concordat of 1801, which restored some freedoms of the Church in France during the Napoleonic era. The author is anonymous, identified only as "un ancien vicaire-general" (an old vicar-general). Text is in French. This copy belonged to Archbishop John B. Purcell of Cincinnati (1800-1883), whose signature is on the title page. Good .
