Near Fine Condition. published in February, 2005 this provisional atlas shows mammal distribution based on a survey of the whole modern county of Cambridgeshire and City of Peterborough carried out by volunteers during 1998-2002 in addition to data from the Cambridgeshire Bat group, the British Trust for Ornithology's Winter mammals project (2000-2003), and data from the national Biological Records Centre, Monks Wood. Coverage may not be equal in all parts of the county, which has to be taken into account when assessing distribution. The presence of a species has been determined by a variety of means: sightings, tracks and other field signs, owl pellet analysis and road/predator casualties. The maps show distribution plotted at 2 km. by 2 km. square for the whole county. Where more than one species is represented on a single map, the key details which symbol relates to which species.
