CUSACK, PEARSE - Blessed Gabriella of Unity - a Patron for the Ecumenical Movement

Ros Cre, Ireland, Cistercian Press. 1995, First Edition. (ISBN: 1900163004). Soft Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A Very Good+ clean, tight and unmarked copy. 16 illustrations. Maria Sagheddu (1914-1939) grew up in Dorgali, a seaside village in Sardinia, as a young girl took part in Catholic Action, and at the age of 21 discovered her vocation to the religious life, entering Grossferrata, at that time the only Trappist monastery for women in Italy. In 1937 the Abbey of Grossferrata, taking its cue from the French ecumenist, Paul Couturier, began to support the week of Prayer for Church Unity and put its spiritual weight behind the ecumenical movement. Soon after this Sister Gabriella, as Maria had now become, confided to her superiors that she wanted to offer her life for the unity of the Church. Early in 1938 she was diagnosed as having tuberculosis, and her condition worsened and she died on St. George's Day, 23 April 1939. 19 years later the process of beatification was opened and on 25 January 1983, at the end of Church Unity Week, she was raised to the altar by Pope John Paul II. R6. Very Good/No Jacket.
