Exceedingly rare first edition published by the Catholic mission of Tahiti.Jaussen, French-born missionary who was the first bishop of Tahiti where he resided between 1848 and 1891. His Tahitian name was Tepano. In addition to this work, he published a catechism and a prayerbook in Tahitian. This is the first comprehensive linguistic work of Tahitian, comprising three parts; grammaire tahitien, dictionnaire tahitien-français and vocabulaire français-tahitien.
