General Lucien-Jean-Frédéric Piarron de Mondésir (1857-1943), at time of composing the book a Colonel of Engineers, wrote a very detailed book on the siege of the Turkish fortress. As an engineer he was especially interested in field fortifications, but paid much consideration to the employment of the artillery by the two opposing armies. It was the loss of Edirne (Adrianople) that delivered the final blow on the Ottoman army and brought an end to the First Balkan War. Mondesir's work was highly praised and was used as the blueprint for narratives about the siege which were consequently published in various countries and in different languages. 004-2 .
