All is placed in the original portfolio, green cloth over boards, gilt lettering, large central ornament in red and gilt, cloth ties, spine and interior reinforced with matching cloth, text volume bit chipped along spine. In a very good condition and with a splendid set of crisp plates. ~ FIRST EDITION. An authoritative manual on chromolithography in 1885 (Colour and Colour Printing, by W. D. Richmond) asserts the need for at least nine separate stones to achieve such richness, but in fact the number of stones used here was more than twenty. Rich gilt highlights and varnish layers were added. A splendid production in excellent state of preservation. X-7 .
