Half-title present. HARDCOVER, bound in contemporary prize binding of navy blue full morocco, gilt lettering "Universite de France, Collége Royal de Bourbon" embossed on upper cover within large gilt wreath of two branches, gilt tooled floral frame on each cover, spine gilt decorated and lettered, gilt tooled board edges, marbled endpapers and book block edges, green ribbon marker. Foxed in part in the beginning, remarkably bright later on. In fine condition. Handsome copy. ~ FIRST EDITION. Translated from the original English manuscript by Benjamin Laroche. The second edition was published two years later (Paris, Poulton-de-l'Épée, 1835). James Silk Buckingham (1786-1855). A dedicated traveller and a prolific writer, he wrote, among others, also "Travels In Palestine Through the Countries of Bashan and Gilead" (1921); "Travels Among the Arab Tribes Inhabiting the Countries East of Syria and Palestine" (1925); "Travels in Mesopotamia" (1827); "Travels in Assyria Media and Persia" (1830). [Provenance:] From the private library of Auguste de Blignières with his small, unassuming bookplate inside cover. Auguste Le Barbier de Blignières (1825-1851) was a professor of rhetoric at the Collège Stanislas in Paris. He wrote many books on language and grammar, and is well known for his book "Essai sur Amyot et les traducteurs français au XVIe siècle" (Paris, 1851) about Jacques Amyot (1513-1593), the French Renaissance writer and translator.
