Two soldiers, one standing, the other seated on a boulder, in a ruined building with trees and a pond.Etching on hand laid paper, made by Abraham Genoels, after his own design. Dated 1675, Rome. Sheet size 141 x 192 mm.Abraham Genoels (nickname: Archimedes) (Antwerp 1640 - 1723 Antwerp) was a Flemish Baroque painter, printmaker, draughtsperson, and tapestry designer. He is mainly remembered for his landscape paintings and prints. He worked in many places in Europe, including Paris, Rome and Antwerp.A beautiful print, but not in the best condition. Cropped within platemark, a small stain in the top right corner, some minimal paper loss top right, a a small stain in the center of the image, and another above the head of the standing soldier, some soiling in the left edge. References: Hollstein 18 (only state); Bartsch 18. With the collection mark of Friedrich August II of Saxony (Lugt 971) in the lower edge.
