Wall map of the world in two hemispheres printed on two sheets, depicting the Eastern and Western hemispheres supported by two male figures, decorated at the bottom right and left with two celestial hemispheres (boreal and southern) and at the bottom in the middle with an armillary sphere, in addition. Size 115 x 145 cm. Copper engraving made by Gobert-Denis Chambon after the work of Guillaime De L’Isle, published in 1754 by Jean Janvier and S.G. Longschamps. This map is most notable for its depiction of the Sea of Japan labeled Mer de Corée and of Mer de L'Ouest or Sea of the West - a great sea, easily the size of the Mediterranean, to flow from the then-known Strait of Juan de Fuca. Australia and New Zealand are depicted in typical post-Tasman form, however, unlike other French cartographers at the time who tended to join New Guinea to Tasmania in a single and highly creative, imaginary coastline, Janvier leaves those undiscovered coastlines blank. Early Dutch discoveries are noted in Australia and New Zealand, as are other recent discoveries around the world. The tracks of Magellan, Vasco da Gama and Francis Drake are shown. According to Don McGuirk this map shows an early copy of a Buache type 1 Mer de l'Ouest. Four states of this map were found. - State 1 : Dated 1751. - State 2: Dated 1754. Under the title, engraved by Chambon. Lower left, A PARIS, chés les Sieurs Longchamps et Janvier, Geographes, rue St Jacques a l'Enseigne de la Place des Victoires. This state and later states is found surrounded by borders with biblical vignettes. - State 3: Dated 1788. Now chez Mondhare and Jean. - State 4: Dated An 8 (1799-1800). Some parts are contemporarily underlaid with paper, for protective reasons. Repair of a split on the crossing of folds. Some paper discoloration. Some staining and folds. 1. All books are complete and in a good condition, unless otherwise stated.
2. Prices are in euros, excluding shipping costs, unless otherwise stated. Within The Netherlands always free shipping.
3. For the European union, the VAT laws are applicable. All prices are including 6% VAT. If you have a VAT number, please led us know when you send your order.
Shipping, bank and cheque costs will be billed at costprice.
After ordering a book, you will receive the total price by email.
4. Books must be paid in advance. Institutions, libraries, and known customers can pay by invoice.
5. Payments can be made by bank transfer or by Paypal.
6. The ownwer of the delivered books is the seller, until the books are fully paid.
7. The risk of shipping of the ordered books is for the seller. The seller has the privilege to assurance the shipped books. This costs will be accounted to the buyer.
8. Each purchase can be returned within 7 days after reception, without proper stated reason. The seller highly appriciates an acknowlegdement of this before by email. The price of the books (without the shipping and insurance corsts) will be paid back in 30 days.
9. If the return is a cause of an incomplete description, all the shipping and insurance costs will be paid back. The returned books must receive the seller in the same condition as they are send. The risk of the return shipments are for the sender.


Verkoopvoorwaarden

1. Alle boeken zijn compleet en in goede conditie, tenzij anders aangegeven.
2. Prijzen zijn in Euro's en exclusief verzendkosten, binnen Nederland altijd gratis verzending.
3. Voor Nederland en de Europese Unie, zijn de BTW wetten van toepassing.
Alle prijzen zijn inclusief 6% BTW. Als u een BTW nummer hebt, laat dat ons weten op het moment dat u een order verstuurd.
Verzendkosten bank- en chequekosten worden tegen kostprijs doorberekend. U ontvangt vooraf een opgave van het totaalbedrag per email.
4. Boeken worden geleverd tegen vooruitbetaling. Aan instellingen, bibliotheken en bekende klanten kan eventueel met met factuur worden geleverd.
5. Betaling kan geschieden via bank- of giro-overschrijving of via Paypal.
6. Geleverde boeken blijven eigendom van de verkoper totdat volledige betaling van het factuurbedrag heeft plaats gevonden.
7. Het verzenden van de bestelde boeken is voor risico van de verkoper. Verkoper behoudt zich het recht voor de goederen aangetekend te verzenden. De kosten hieruit voortvloeiend worden doorberekend aan de koper.
8. Elke aankoop kan binnen 7 dagen na ontvangst, zonder opgaaf van reden, aan verkoper retour gezonden worden (een voorafgaande kennisgeving per email wordt op prijs gesteld), waarna restitutie van het aankoopbedrag (excl.verzendkosten). Terugbetaling dient te geschieden binnen 30 dagen.
9. Is de retourzending een gevolg van een onvolledige beschrijving dan wordt het aankoopbedrag inclusief verzendkosten + retourporto gerestitueerd.
Retourzendingen dienen verkoper te bereiken in dezelfde staat als waarin ze aan koper verzonden werden. Het risico van retourzendingen is nadrukkelijk voor de afzender.
