The (anonymous) author says in the Preface that "the ritual adopted by the Modern Order of Essenes is so long that it can only be learned and retained by constant attendance at the meetings, and as many are so situated that they cannot attend regularly, they soon forget much that they have learned . . . " Bound in limp leather with a folding clasp, heavily rubbed, but structurally sound, all edges gilt. Cracking to front paste-down else clean and unmarked of interior. Preface by the author then an introduction to both ancient Essenes (a branch of Judaism) and to modern-day Essenes, an exceedingly devout, fundamentalist cult.
