MORRIS, Ralph [sic] - The Life and Astonishing Adventures of John Daniel

London, Robert Holden & Co, 1926. Hardcover. pp. xv, 276.Small 4to,,Bound in slate blue cloth with spine lettered in gilt and t.e.g.A title in 'The Library of Imposters' - Volume 1, edited by N. M. Penzer and published in a limited edition of 750 copies, of which this is an out-of-series copy. First published in London, in 1751, the same year as Paltrock's 'The Life and Adventures of Peter Wilkins' (which also involved a fantastical flying machine). The author's name, 'Ralph Morris', is almost certainly a pseudonym, and was removed from the second edition (1770) and subsequent editions. Nothing is known about him. There are four elegant black-and-white plates, facsimiles of those which appeared in the first edition. The boards of our copy are bumped at the corners, and the spine is a bit sunned. Some pages are uncut, but the contents are clean, tight, and free of former owner's markings. Overall, in very good condition. .
